Honesty is a bedrock value, essential to a strong relationship, and critical to any assessment of someone’s character. Don’t corrupt it by making it about something else. And don’t penalize someone for being honest, in a way that will encourage them not to tell the truth next time.

You can be honest without telling everything. As far as I’m concerned, the first few dates are “feelers”. You are still getting to know one another and you may not even like each other in the end. There is no need to get into details about other people you may or may not be seeing. I just assume that anyone I date is dating other people and leave it at that. Until you’ve been seeing each other for a while (the definition of which depends on the person) and want to move to an exclusive stage, these conversations are premature.
