Agreed, and it’s not really worth it. OP, instead of trying to start a “bidding war” over yourself with 2 people who are lukewarm about you, why not leave things as they are while going out and meeting new people? You lose nothing and you stand to gain the opportunity of meeting someone who will appreciate you as you appreciate them. I wish you well.

IME people who do this–try to make someone in their life feel insecure right off the bat–are deeply insecure people themselves who, 98% of the time, are exaggerating the actual amount of game they have going on. Basically what they’re doing is projecting their own stuff onto someone new in their life and trying to externalize their own bottomless well of lousy self esteem and lack of self worth. I don’t consider people like this to be good candidates even for casual dating because the behavior tends to continue into the entire relationship. Who wants to go out with someone so insecure that they spend your time together trying to make YOU feel insecure? No thanks.
